Details

Today more than 50 varieties are cultivated here using a variety of orchard techniques but all according to organic principles. A good part of the harvest is sold to merchants shops and customers calling at the gate. Another part is used to make the famous cider and cider brandy. At blossom time (end of May early June) the orchard enchants with its scented sea of white and pinks and in autumn at harvest time red cheeked apples indicate their wish to be picked. Because most trees are deliberately grown quite small many principles of fruit tree growing can easily be shown making a visit of gardening clubs particularly worthwhile. After the educational tour of the orchard its fruit can be sampled in the Tea Room of the Abbey or purchased in the Abbey Shop.
