TV and Film Locations Itinerary
In Ryedale you're not very far from Heartbeat Country and the journey to Goathland (Aidensfield in the television series) gives you a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the landscapes of the North York Moors National Park and the surrounding villages.
At Pickering leave by the A169 to travel through Lockton and Saltersgate – watch out for the Hole of Horcum, a large natural amphitheatre, legend dictates it was made by the Giant of Horcum. Turn off left for the village of Goathland and visit the impressive Mallyan Spout Waterfall, which drops seventy feet down a narrow gorge. Wander around the village and look out for the different buildings used in the Heartbeat series, the village hall and the Goathland Garage, also known as – ‘Mostyn’s Garage and Funeral Services’ to Heartbeat fans.
Hogwarts to Brideshead
Explore a range of TV locations on this full day’s itinerary. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway runs through the spectacular scenery of the North York Moors from Pickering to Grosmont and has provided the backdrop for a wide range of films and TV programmes – the most recent being Harry Potter and Heartbeat.
Take a leisurely return journey by train from Pickering to Grosmont taking in, or stopping off at Goathland Station – Heartbeat’s Aidensfield and Hogsmeade in Harry Potter. After a lunch stop in Pickering head out on the A169 towards Malton and onwards to Castle Howard taking in some of the locations featured in the first ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ film. Arrive at Castle Howard, well known as the location of Brideshead Revisited for a tour of the house and grounds.
