Unbeaten in the UK for the extraordinary variety of riding experience, Ryedale is an undiscovered kingdom of cycling in York’s back garden. From cycling challenges testing the world’s elite, to gentle escapism on slumberous riversides, this little corner has access to Britain’s Best Biking – whether on or off-road, whether seeking two-wheeled glory or time with the family.
Explore the country’s finest wild trails with exhilarating single-track and ridgeway, fly on top of the world with views for miles on quiet back-roads or traffic-free bridleways, have fun in one of Britain’s favourite biking adventure parks, explore a cultural jewel in a capital city of cycling, follow in the tyre-tracks of cycling superstars along the Tour de Yorkshire, or simply escape. All in a lost land of legend and breath-taking beauty, a haven for wildlife – and for us.
There is a great cycling network here, especially since the creation of the Moor to Sea Cycle route that links the towns of Whitby, Scarborough and Pickering. This 80 mile route takes you through all types of scenery and if you wish to cycle just a bit at a time you can easily do so.
Ride along the National Byway from the coast to the Howardian Hills, go for guided bike ride in the high moors of Rosedale or have a family day out on Dalby Forest's cycle trails, there are lots of opportunities to bring your bike out.
With routes through the most country’s most beautiful, historic and tranquil landscapes, cycling is the best way to explore the area’s unique city, coast and countryside, taking you off the beaten track to find your own special places and memories. From lazy riverside meanders perfect for Sunday tandems (or little legs), the highest ‘king of the mountain’ challenges for road-racers, and world-class mountain-biking trails that you can boast to your friends about back home – whatever your style or mood, there’s a route waiting for you.
Cyclists receive a warm welcome throughout the area, and you’ll find a wide range of facilities to make sure your holiday goes smoothly, from cycle-friendly accommodation and bike hire, to tea-rooms who know how to feed a healthy appetite!
