North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) will host its Annual Steam Gala from Friday 29th September to Sunday 1st October, which will be bigger and better, with up to eleven different locomotives in steam over the weekend.

Our home fleet will include "Standard Class 4", 76079 and "Standard Class 4 Tank", 80136. "B1 Class" 61264 and "Black Five Class" locomotive, 44806 will also be running.

The heritage railway will be welcoming some new faces, including 5199 from Llangollen Railway*, along with 1501 and 7714 from the Severn Valley Railway, which are all sure to bring that welcomed western feel. This will be the first time that the NYMR has had two visiting Pannier Tanks, which will be a great photo opportunity to see, as they travel across the North York Moors, double headed.

SR No. 926 "Repton" will also be making a return after overhaul. She has been running in her British Railways colours and numbering as 30926 but will return to traffic in Southern Railways Olive Green under her old number 926.

The locomotive has an unusual history following its withdrawal from Basingstoke in December 1962, after almost 29 years’ front line service. It was subsequently purchased privately and restored at Eastleigh by 1966, before being exported to Steamtown in Vermont, USA. From here the locomotive was loaned to the Cape Breton Steam Railway in Canada where it was given certain modifications to meet exacting North American running conditions, including a cow catcher and higher sides to its tender.

In 1989, it was sold again and repatriated to the UK, where it was returned to steam, and a more familiar British outline, on the NYMR.

We also hope to have appearances from "Black Five Class", 45428 "Eric Treacy", The North Eastern Railway (NER) "Class P3" and "Q6 Class" 63395, which are all undergoing overhauls at the moment.

We are delighted to also be offering our visitors the chance to see a selection of Showman's Traction Engines at Pickering Station; these world-renowned specimens of beautiful craftsmanship will be on display for the whole weekend.

Our Annual Beer Festival, held at both Levisham and Goathland Station is also gaining traction with a massive selection of over 30 hand pulled ales and ciders from favourite breweries such as Brass Castle, York Brewery and Antsy Ales (pick up your ale trail booklet during the event). Another first for the NYMR is live music from the Incredible Dr. Busker at Goathland Station on Sunday 1st October between 7pm & 11pm. The Incredible Dr. Busker is a stalwart in the world of preservation and steam rallies, often billed as The Last Victorian Pub Pianist! He is sure to delight your earbuds with an evening of entertainment and extravaganza, so make sure you're prepared and visit Goathland Station on Sunday.

Back by popular demand are the model railway layouts from Scarborough & District Railway Modellers; great for enthusiasts of all ages, these layouts have a wonderful amount of detail and should be seen by all. The Demonstration Freight Train will be running between Pickering & Levisham and Goathland & Grosmont; making for great photographic opportunities, with the wagons lovingly restored to original specifications by the Pickering Wagon Group. Trade Stands and Book Signings will also be on display at Pickering Station, Platforms 1 & 2.

Refreshment outlets at all the NYMR stations will be open during the event, whether you would like to start the day with a hearty breakfast at one of the station tea rooms or relax and take in the sights, smells and sounds as you enjoy a freshly brewed cup of tea at Mulberrries Café & Terrace.

We look forward to welcoming you, it is going to be a great day out for all the family, with plenty to see and do for the steam enthusiast in all of us.Tickets for the Annual Steam Gala are now available at nymr.co.uk/annual-steam-gala.
