Malton & Norton Attractions

Malton & Norton Attractions - Malton Museum

Malton and Norton are an excellent base from which to visit some of the county's most popular visitor attractions.  On the edge of Malton is Eden Camp, a unique museum of social life in the Second World War, which occupies an original prisoner of war camp.  Here, aspects of life on the home front are brought to life in reconstructions which include rationing, evacuees, the blitz and a war time music hall. The museum transports the visitor back to wartime Britain, where the civilian way of life during World War II can be relived.

To the west is Castle Howard - perhaps the most spectacular country house in the North of England, with its beautiful facades familiar to many as the Brideshead from Brideshead Revisited.  The equally impressive fine art collection, parkland, formal gardens, lakes and follies and an award-winning farm shop make a great day out for all the family.

A few miles to the north, Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo is one of the UK's most popular attractions.

A number of Malton's heritage attractions are presented in a new publication titled 'FIND Malton', including The Subscription Rooms, The Counting House, Orchard Fields and Castle Gardens.

Malton Castle Garden is a five acre public park and is a scheduled ancient monument site with evidence of remains of a Roman fort, Malton Castle and a Jacobean Prodigy House underlying the ground.  Special events are held throughout the year but the garden is free to enter every day.  Malton Castle played an important part in English history, locally & nationally.  Today all that remains is a street name and a few remnants of wall.  There is a fascinating story to tell – this is the story of The Castle That Malton Forgot.
